THE TIME LIMIT OF INSCRIPTIONS SPREADS UNTIL MAY 1ST, 2016 . IT INCLUDES WORKSHOPS, DOCUMENTAL , PHOTO,THEATER SHOWS , TESTIMONIALS AND OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS AND STUDENTSHIPS REQUEST FOR LODGING AND FEEDING IN QUITO.

Because of the earthquake which has registered in Ecuador, the organizing group of ICOPA XVI in Quito extends the cycle of inscriptions due to most of foreing and ecuadorian people are mobilizing solidarity resources and volunteers in the disaster areas.

Partners who will attend to ICOPA XVI: We are organizing to offer a security place for all of you.

In ICOPA-16 we will have a table destined to the socialization of critical productions with criminalization and prison (in its broadest meanings), generated in all the regions. We encourage you to share with your close and distant  environment this space (non-profit) of books, posters, leaflets, etc., generated in diverse areas of anti-prison analysis and action at the global level. The materials, which we hope to see arriving with you or to be sent if you can´t come, may be displayed or distributed, according to the criteria of people that have produce them.

The only two requirements are that the origins of the materials cannot be from governmental institutions, and cannot express any form of racial, sexual or other kind of discriminations.

We hope whit this to contribute to mutual understanding and sharing initiatives and abolitionists thoughts or criticisms of penal justice, in many different languages.

EL NUEVO MODELO PENITENCIARIO: ENTRE EL SUEÑO DEL CONTROL Y LA REALIDAD DE LOS DERECHOS QUE NO SE CUMPLEN.

En febrero pasado se celebró en Quito – Ecuador el I ENCUENTRO NACIONAL DE FAMILIARES DE GENTE EN PRISIÓN, PERSONAS EXCARCELADAS Y ORGANIZACIONES SOLIDARIAS. Se trató de un espacio abierto para el análisis colectivo del nuevo régimen penitenciario que se está implementando en el país, para intercambiar y socializar experiencias de vida de la población penalizada y para reflexionar sobre el problema político de profundización y diversificación de la criminalización acercándonos a la situación de micro-vendedoras de sustancias ilegales, migrantes, personas refugiadas, indígenas, manifestantes, mujeres que han abortado… Con este artículo iniciamos la entrega de una serie de ponencias que enriquecieron el encuentro y que sabemos que apartarán a la discusión sobre la consolidación, en Ecuador, de un Estado Penal.

CALL FOR PAPERS ICOPA 16 – QUITO

Impacts of prison policies in a global context. Experiences of resistance and discussions on abolitionism from Latin America

The Organizing Committee of the ICOPA-16 sends greetings to all those who from afar follow the steps from the ICOPA. This document  inaugurates the meeting, which will take place on 16, 17 and 18 June 2016 in Quito, Ecuador,  with the collaboration of, among others, the Andean Human Rights Program at the University Simón Bolívar and the Committee of  Family and friends of people in prison in Ecuador.
